The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology has welcomed the official award of MOFCOM Scholarships to Gambian beneficiaries, describing the programme as an important investment in human capital development and educational cooperation between The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China.

Speaking at the official award ceremony, Honorable Professor Pierre Gomez expressed appreciation to the Government and people of China, as well as the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia, for their continued support in providing Gambians with opportunities to pursue advanced studies and acquire professional skills.

The Minister said the scholarships go beyond financial support, describing them as an investment in knowledge, skills and the future development of The Gambia.

He welcomed Gambian beneficiaries who have successfully completed their studies and returned home, urging them to apply the knowledge and experience gained abroad to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He also congratulated the newly selected scholarship beneficiaries and encouraged them to approach their studies with discipline, commitment and determination, while respecting the laws and culture of their host country.

Professor Gomez further highlighted the role of scholarship beneficiaries in strengthening people-to-people relations between The Gambia and China, noting that their experiences, professional networks and cultural understanding can contribute to deepening the friendship between the two countries.

The Minister reaffirmed MoHERST’s commitment to working with development partners to expand opportunities in scholarships, research collaboration, academic exchange, innovation and capacity building.

He expressed hope that the partnership between The Gambia and China will continue to grow, creating more opportunities for Gambian students and professionals and contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
